The new year break and general distractions have led to a month between Exile Empire sessions, which isn't so bad in the scheme of things. And it gave me time to work out some plotlines, plan some encounters, and decide to have the PCs attacked by gas-vomiting madmen and half-physical sky-squid, which is really what D&D is all about.

Trips to the other side of the world and upcoming yuletide celebrations are not enough to stop my Eberron campaign - they merely serve to complicate the scheduling. But we managed to get it together for a four-player group today, and jumped right into the next chapter of the game.

Now that I'm back in Australia, it's of course time to get another D&D session organised. After months of spinning up ideas and weeks of sorting out details, today was the first session of Exile Empire, my new 4E Eberron campaign.

And I think it went pretty well. There are some ways it can be improved, and to an extent this session was a prelude to the campaign proper (as will be the next 1-2), but it was definitely a good start ( Read more... )

Session 0 of Exile Empire turned out to be more like Session 0 + Session 0.1, with Session 0.2 still to come, as I wasn't able to get everyone together for dinner, discussion and character creation at the same time. Still, we're almost there, and four of the five players have made characters now. We have:

With session 0 (discussion, chargen and dinner) of Exile Empire coming up next week, it's time to lock down a few house rules, or at least house suggestions about how to tackle things.
